The Liebster Award

Like my friend Sarah, from Sarahdipity, I had never heard of the Liebster Award, until she nominated me for it last week. Basically, it is an award for bloggers to pass onto fellow bloggers as a means of support and encouragement. There are no judges and such but in fact every person nominated ‘wins’ by helping get blogs with less than 200 followers more traffic. (It has also been quite fun to do too).

The process of being nominated involves you answering eleven questions posed by the nominator. Here are the eleven answers to the questions Sarah gave me:

1. If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you choose to be?
It is bloody freezing in Melbourne at the moment, so I would choose somewhere lovely and warm, like Queensland. πŸ™‚

2. What is your favourite book?
I love so many books so I’m going to cheat and give my favourite classic and modern book. Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell is my all-time favourite which I can read and reread without getting bored. My modern favourite is The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton, which we read this year in my book club. I also highly recommend it.

3. Shower or bath?
I would love to have a bath more often but the chances are few and far between with two little men to look after. There always seems to be something more pressing to do! That said, I relish my lovely hot shower every morning.

4. Have you ever met a celebrity?
Hmmm…It’s a bit interesting at the moment but my sister and I got James Hird’s signature at the Australian Open of all places probably fifteen years ago. I was a little bit in love with him then. (For those who don’t know, James Hird was an Australian Rules footballer turned coach and his club is currently facing allegations of having brought the game into disrepute due to administering banned drugs).

5. You have a whole day home alone, what do you do?
I usually have one day to myself every week when the children are in Childcare. There is always so much to do and catch up on, or sometimes appointments to attend, but I’m assuming this question is asking what I would do in an ideal world. If all the housework was done and I had nowhere to go, I would: blog; put some Delta/Whitney/Stevie/Crowded House/Waifs on and sing and dance along; bake; read; enjoy a quiet cup of tea; go for a walk; ring my Mum or my sister; do some yoga; watch Wives and Daughters/North and South; or maybe have that bath!

6. What is your favourite recipe?
At the moment, anything quick that everyone will eat without complaint is good. ANZAC biscuits are a favourite of mine that I’ve made since I was a teenager, so they are always a winner. In terms of a meal, probably my favourite at the moment is a cherry tomato and bacon risotto. It cooks itself in the oven(!!) and we serve it with salmon and green vegies. Yum!

7. What’s your favourite time of the day?
I love the hugs and calling out for “Mum” in the morning. If you have to get up before 6.30 am at times, it’s nice being greeted with happy little faces and big cuddles. But, I also love when my boys are both sound asleep in the evening and I can sit on the couch with my peppermint tea and piece of chocolate and breathe out. πŸ™‚

8. If you were given $100 right now that you could only spend on yourself, what would you buy?
At the time of reading this, last Monday, I was in dire need of some new jeans as both my pairs had holes worn through at the knees, from -you guessed it- running around with my little monkeys all day.
So I did get some new jeans and a new top as well.

9. What super power do you wish you had?
I know there’s a bit of a pattern emerging here but I would love the super power to understand my littlest man’s toddler babble. Sometimes I have absolutely no idea what he wants and he keeps repeating a word that I do not understand. Tantrums ensue and we both become very frustrated with one another. It would be a blessing to have this super power with newborns as well. I’m sure all mums would agree.

10. Favourite song?
I’ve been known to drag people onto the dance floor for about ten of my “favourite songs” but Whitney Houston’s I Wanna Dance With Somebody is probably my all-time favourite. My easy listening fave is Eva Cassidy’s Songbird.

11. What’s the most memorable present you’ve ever receieved?
Probably a recipe book put together by my beautiful friends for my 30th last year. Any surprises do the trick for me really. My hubby sent me flowers for our anniversary this year which he has never done in our twelve years together! That was very exciting.

In order to pass on The Liebster Award, I am required to nominate eleven other bloggers who have less than 200 followers and ask them eleven questions as well. The only bloggers I follow religiously are: my friend Sarah (who has already been nominated), my sister Jacqueline (of PS Don’t Tell Mum), and my friend and high school teacher, Christos of MiliKing Meanderings. These eleven questions are posed at both Jacqueline and Christos, should they choose to accept the award.

1. What was the name of your first pet?

2. Who was your childhood idol?

3. What languages do you speak, or which would you love to learn?

4. Beaches or mountains?

5. If there was a movie of your life story, who would you want to play you?

6. What is your biggest achievement to date?

7. What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?

8. Favourite place in the world?

9. Favourite meal and who would cook it for you?

10. If you could invite four people, living or dead, to dinner, who would they be?

11. What song always makes you smile when you hear it?
